Macintosh Tips
Exchange Hosting Service is compatible with Macintosh, and we welcome
Mac users. We have a number of clients who use Macintosh. Although most of
our tech support pages are written for Windows users, this page will
provide some Mac specific instructions.
In order to get the full benefit of Exchange server functionality, you
need to use Entourage 2004. You can download updates and Mac software from Microsoft at the following location:
http://www.microsoft.com/mac/download/
Exchange Server support is already
built into Entourage 2004 and is greatly enhanced with Office 2004 for
Mac Service Pack 2 (SP2). See below for more about SP2.
Exchange does support the traditional Internet email protocols POP3 and
SMTP. Details you can use for that can
be found under POP Client
Configuration.

The following information is provided for configuration of Entourage;
note the short version of the logon name used as account ID. If your
complete logon name was girlygirl@yourdomain.com you would use girlygirl
as the account ID and webville.net as the domain.
Server names depend on whether you are hosted on our
Exchange 2003 or Exchange 2007 systems. Also Microsoft changed the
nomenclature for server roles between Exchange 2003 and Exchange 2007. This
is an oversimplification, but basically what used to be called a front-end
server is now called a client access server and what used to be called a
back-end server is now called a mailbox server.

The following screen shots and tips were provided by a
client using OS X Tiger with Mac Office 2004 SP2. He noted, once all the
settings are properly input, add your public folders to the favorite public
folders, and be patient for all the data to be downloaded.

A client has provided the following useful information for our Entourage
users.
In order to open another users folders in Entourage, you must be a delegate
of the other user. Folder permissions alone are not enough. See our
delegates page for more info.
Please help us improve our Mac support. If you find any problems with
this information, or additional tips and tricks we should pass on to other
Mac users, please let us know.
